The Media City 1992/3
The Media City is a relief sculpture made from decoupaged cardboard boxes, mounted onto a ply base. This base was first covered with maps of underground electricity cabelling and then painted with a design based on Piet Mondrian's Broadway Boogie Woogie.
Mondrian's abstract painting from 1942-3 is said to gave been based on looking down on the streets of New York City, the yellow being the New York taxis.
The piece divides into four sections: top left - films and books, top right - fashion, bottom left - newspapers, sensationalism and the exploitation of private lives by the media, bottom right - the visual arts.
The Media City remains the property of the artist.
